Privacy Policy
Alien Zoo Tycoon · Effective 14 October 2026
Alien Zoo Tycoon (“the game”) is made by Nathan Beckett, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what information the game uses, why, and the choices you have. I am the data controller for the purposes of the UK GDPR and EU GDPR.
The short version
- There are no accounts, and I don't run any servers. Your zoo is saved only on your device.
- The game shows optional rewarded video ads through Google AdMob. Google collects some device data to show and measure those ads, as described below.
- Purchases and Game Center are handled by Apple.
- Players in the UK, EEA and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and everyone on iOS is asked by Apple before any tracking.
Information stored on your device
Your game progress (zoo layout, currency, upgrades, settings and similar) is stored locally on your device. It is not sent to me. Deleting the app deletes it.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The game offers optional rewarded videos: you choose to watch one in return for an in-game reward. These ads are provided by Google AdMob. To serve ads, measure their performance and prevent fraud, Google may collect:
- device identifiers, including the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), but only if you allow tracking when iOS asks;
- your IP address and approximate location derived from it;
- device and app information (device model, operating system, app version, language);
- ad interaction data (which ads were shown and whether they were watched or tapped);
- diagnostic data such as crash and performance information from the ads SDK.
If you allow it, this information may be used to show you personalised ads and may be linked with data from other apps and websites, which Apple calls “tracking”. If you don't allow it, Google may still show non-personalised ads that rely on contextual information.
Google processes this data under its own privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy. You can read how Google uses data from apps that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Your consent choices
- App Tracking Transparency: iOS asks whether the game may track you. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- UK, EEA and Switzerland: before ads are shown, the game displays a consent form provided by Google. You can accept, choose specific options, or decline. You can change your choice at any time in the game under Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices.
- US residents: where state privacy laws apply, you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising using the options shown in the game.
Legal basis (UK/EU): personalised advertising relies on your consent. Non-personalised ads and fraud prevention rely on legitimate interests in funding the game and keeping ads secure.
In-app purchases
Purchases are processed entirely by Apple. I don't receive your payment details, only confirmation from Apple that a purchase was made so the game can unlock it. See Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy.
Game Center
If you are signed in to Game Center, the game submits your score to the Galactic League leaderboard and reports achievements. Game Center is run by Apple and shows your Game Center nickname to other players. If you allow it, the game can show how your Game Center friends rank. I don't receive or store this information elsewhere.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders, the game schedules notifications locally on your device (at most two: when your hangar is full and for your daily reward). No notification data is sent to me.
Children
The game is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and I don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the game, contact me and I will help have it removed.
Data retention and international transfers
I don't hold any of your personal data myself. Data collected by Google and Apple is kept according to their policies and may be processed outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards those companies use (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent at any time. Because I don't hold your data, most requests are handled most directly by changing the settings above or by contacting Google or Apple. You're welcome to contact me and I will help. UK residents can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), and EU residents to their local data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
